Practice the conversations
that matter.

More time to practice. More confidence to speak.

A good conversation takes practice. TutorTalks lets your students practice out loud with an AI avatar, using a scenario you’ve prepared for your class. Choose what they work on, share a join code, and read the conversations before your next class.

For the way you teach and learn

Teaching a class, supporting a department, or learning something for yourself? There’s a place for you here.

Instructors

A session for your next class

Turn an idea or a piece of course material into a practice conversation. Create the session, share it with your students, and review how it went, all in one place.

University departments

A shared home for your teaching

Share sessions across your department and manage the instructors who use them. Keep spending and records in one place, with the oversight your department needs.

Students

A little practice, on your terms

Join with the code from your instructor and practice when it suits you while the session is open. Work on a language, prepare for an interview, or try something new, in your browser and at your own pace.

How it works

From an idea for your class to a conversation you can review.

You plan it. They practice out loud. You see where they need help.

    Before class

    Plan the conversation

Decide who students will talk to and what they should practice. Add your instructions and course materials, then try it yourself.

  2. When they’re ready

    Share it with your class

Start the session and share its link or six-character join code. Students open it in their browser and begin when they’re ready.

    Before your next class

    See where they need help

Read the transcripts to see what students understood, where they got stuck, and what you want to go over next.

In every session

Choose who they talk to

A patient, an interviewer, a conversation partner. Describe the role and how you want the avatar to respond.

Set the boundaries

Choose the topics to cover, add your course materials, and set limits on the conversation.

Read how it went

Read what each student said and how the avatar replied. Use it to plan feedback or a follow-up in class.

Practice another language

Set the language and level for your session, so students can use what they’ve been learning in conversation.

What would you like your students to practice?

Start with a conversation that matters in your course. Here are a few ideas, each with the line the avatar opens with.

Language facultyMore speaking practice, beyond the classroom.

Speaking another language

Ordering lunch in French. Interviewing for a job in Spanish. Give students a reason to use the language beyond the textbook.

“Buenos días. ¿Es usted el candidato para el puesto de recepcionista?”
Sr. Álvarez · Spanish job interview
Healthcare & nursingPractice patient conversations before clinicals.

Taking a patient history

Write a patient case for your medical or nursing class. Students can work on asking questions, listening, and deciding what to ask next.

“It started about an hour ago. It feels like a weight on my chest.”
Mr. Okafor · Chest pain, a first history
Any subjectEvery student gets a speaking partner.

Explaining their thinking

Ask students to talk through a problem or defend an argument. Set up the avatar to ask follow-up questions that help them explain their reasoning.

“You said the heavier ball lands first. What makes you think so?”
Professor Lindqvist · Physics tutorial
Career centersPractice the interview before it matters.

Preparing for an interview

Give students a chance to say their answers out loud before the real interview. Read the conversation together and work on what needs another try.

“Tell me about a time you failed, and what you did next.”
Ms. Carter · First-round interview

Start with your next class

For instructors

Create a session for your class

Choose a scenario, add the material you teach from, and try the conversation yourself before sharing it with students.

  • Start from a template or your own idea
  • Use your course materials
  • Read student conversations in one place

Teaching is human.

You know your students. We give them more practice.

There’s only so much time in a class, and some students need another try before they’re ready to speak up. TutorTalks gives them a place to work through the conversations you’ve planned. You can see how it went and decide what support they need next.

1m40s
is each student’s share of a 50-minute class of 30, if everyone gets one turn. A session gives every student the whole conversation.
